I go to this restaurant a lot, especially with groups of people to celebrate birthdays, etc. I notice that the server is always asked questions about the menu, and they need to know what comprises each dish and also, what exchanges can happen. For example, I ordered Chicken Parmesan and for my pasta, I could choose whatever I wanted. I asked her what kind, and she mentioned the pasta it came with, or I could also have Angle Hair pasta instead. So learn your menu because you will be asked questions. It is a great menu and I would think a great place to work, so good luck with this new job!!!

Want to Transfer within company but manager will Lie about me?
Want to Transfer within company but manager will Lie about me?
I work in the restaurant industry for the OSI, they own Outback, Carrabbas, Cheeseburger Paradise, Flemings, and Bonefish. I currently work at Carrabbas and have worked there a little under a year 5 days a week. I would say I am one of the most experienced servers there, having worked both for the Pappas company and Kona Grill for a total of 5 years waiting tables. I am good at what I do.
I do not make enough money at Carrabbas, and Bonefish is much closer to my house, anyway. I want to transfer to the better restaurant. I mentioned this to some people who have worked at Carrabbas longer than myself, and they have said that regardless of circumstance, our manager will NOT let people transfer within the company.
For example, a former employee walked out and went to cheeseburger paradise, filled out an application without mentioning he had worked within the company (proprietors apparently call each other if you fill out the 'have you worked for an osi company before' box). Anyway, he was hired, and worked there for a couple weeks before my manager found out where he was. The manager then called Cheeseburger's manager and told him that the former employee had stolen alcohol from Carrabbas. He was fired.
I know that the manager at Bonefish would love to have a server like myself on staff, and I know I have the experience to be hired easily. My concern is that this manager will call and lie about me or tell them not to hire me. What can I do to stop this, and is there anything I can legally do or threaten to do so I can get a job where I am happier?
Please help!

No guarantees, but you could ask your current manager for a performance review, so you would have a written description of your performance BEFORE you try to leave.
=============
THEN
go to the manager at the Bonefish.
tell him about your experience, and that you would like to change.
tell him what has happened to people who transferred away from your current manager.

If you want to transfer restaurants it should be entirely your choice. If the manager calls and makes a lie about you so they wont hire you, that's not right. .If you are that qualified for the job they should let you in. You could talk to your manager personally and say hey, "hey, i would like to leave here and go to "bone fish" because it works out better for me, if you would please give some good word (no lie that would get me fired) in that would be appreciated." And he if he wont let you, its not a company to stay with. Its not right to tell a lie and get someone fired.

mothers day gift help?
mothers day gift help?
hey. mothers day is sunday.
my mom wants to go out to carrabbas for mothers day, http://carrabbas.com/ its a restaurant. its a little expensive though. my dad only has 150 dollars to last him the week. she likes the smell of flowers.
ok so this is what i was thinking of doing.
get her some good smelling flowers and a card, either make one or buy one.
make her breakfast, whatever she wants.. sausage, bacon, ham, eggs, pancakes, french toast, anything, ill make it.
bring her out to lunch or dinner at applebees, i know she really likes applebees and it's a little cheaper. http://www.applebees.com/default.aspx
go for a car ride up north. we live in new hampshire, so we have nice scenery i guess. she always likes taking car rides too.
does that sound good?
does anyone have any other cheap ideas?
oh and what flowers smell good?
and she doesnt like jewelry, it makes her break out. lol and shes not very girly
thanks

I can't imagine that Carrabbas is that much more expensive than Applebees. If she really wants to go to Carrabbas, I would take her there, so she isn't disappointed. If money is a concern, do lunch rather than dinner, don't get appetizers. You may want to also consider just having your father take her, or just you and her going, to conserve some money. You could also look into other Italian restaurants. Is this the Carrabbas in Tyngsboro, near the Pheasant Lane Mall? If so, there's Valentino's in Hudson, they may be cheaper (I'm not sure). Or, you could make her an Italian-esque dinner like stuffed shells with sauce and sausage (cheap and great!). Or, if you have a grill, you could have a little cookout.
Most flowers smell good, but women tend to have preferences for certain types of flowers. You can always go into a florist (or from a grocery store, if they don't look awful- the Stop and Shop in Hudson has a decent floral department, for example) and sniff around.
Making her breakfast would be inexpensive and a thoughtful gesture. I would definitely go with that. Moms also definitely love it when other people clean the house for them.
As far as the car ride goes, I guess it depends. If you drive too much, the gas will get expensive, and she might start to get restless. If you just ask her if she would like to take a car ride, and where to, that should be sufficient. I do suggest that you create a point to the ride. Is there a particular scenic area where she likes to stop and hang out, for example?
Frankly, without a lot of money to throw around, there's not tons of stuff you can do, but making breakfast and cleaning up around the house are both things she will appreciate. I love waking up to breakfast and a clean house.
