About this Splore

If you want to learn how to win at arm wrestling, this is the splore for you. Contributions will include videos showing techniques and training tips from the best in the world and championship matches.

Arm wrestling is a sport with two participants. Each participant places one arm (either the right or left, but both must be the same) on a surface with their elbows bent and touching the surface, and they grip each other's hand. The goal is to pin the other's arm onto the surface, with the winner's arm over the loser's arm.

Beat a bigger stronger bully

On August 20, 2012, I posted in the Splore, “IT’S A GREAT DAY TO...”

"show a strong 17 year-old grandson how to win at arm wrestling. He said there is a bully he would like to beat in arm wrestling. Unless the bully is very much stronger than my grandson, he will now be able to beat him. You have to be strong to be a good arm wrestler, but technique plays an equal part."

True to what I promised, yesterday at his sister’s baptism, my grandson (about 150 lbs) told me it took him about a minute but he beat the 210 pound bully. He is strong for his weight but he attributes his success to the techniques I showed him. With proper technique he was able to beat a much bigger and stronger opponent. The truth was in the pulling.

Best arm wrestling training

The best arm wrestling training is arm wrestling with someone as good or better than you. I was fortunate to have the state heavyweight champion as my workout partner. We would get together at my house to arm wrestle for about an hour once a week. He was a little stronger but our matches were about even. He would wins some and I would win some.

The previous two contributions show John Brzenk arm wrestling with friends. In some of the pulls, the guys are able to put his arm down. This is because John is arm wrestling each one many times and his arm gets tired. Some in this group are also champions.

Sand kicked in my face

I got into arm wrestling after I got sand kicked in my face. Well, not exactly, it was when I was visiting my Mom, and my brother who is very strong and a good bit bigger than me, gathered everyone together and asked me to arm wrestle him. I did and had no chance. I trained for awhile and the next time we met, my arm did not go down.

I entered my first arm wrestling contest when I was 33 and finished third in U.S. Open in Baltimore. A couple of weeks later I won the Virginia State Championship in my weight class. I won the last of my six West Virginia state championships at age 47 before retiring from competition. A notable achievement was beating a world champion in my weight class five straight times.

Various factors

"Various factors can play a part in one's success in arm wrestling. Technique and overall arm strength are the two greatest contributing factors to winning an arm wrestling match. Other factors such as the length of an arm wrestler's arm, his/her muscle and arm mass/density, hand grip size, wrist endurance and flexibility, reaction time, as well as countless other traits, can add to the advantages of one arm wrestler over another. It is sometimes used to prove who is stronger between two or more people." -- Wikipedia
