Computers & Internet

The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that serve billions of users worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks, of local to global scope, that are linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries a vast range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents of the World Wide Web (WWW) and the infrastructure to support electronic mail.

Computers refer to many types of computing devices, including the traditional personal computer, but also tablets, smart phones, and other devices that can be connected to the Internet to perform specific tasks such as web browsing.

Already bored with the iPad 3? with 1 contribution

All you Mac enthusiasts out there, you've no doubt been following the barrage of media coverage lately about the upcoming March release of the iPad 3. While anything new and shiny is worth talking about for some, others take a "ho-hum" attitude towards yet another incremental (?) update and argue it's simply not worth the upgrade (see http://techcrunch.com/2012/02/14/im-already-bored-with-the-ipad-3/). What do you think?

In a packet-based communications network, packet aggregation is the process of joining multiple packets together into a single transmission unit, in order to reduce the overhead associated with each transmission.

Packet aggregation is useful in situations where each transmission unit may have significant overhead (preambles, headers, cyclic redundancy check, etc.) or where the expected packet size is small compared to the maximum amount of information that can be transmitted.

In a communication system based on a layered OSI model, packet aggregation may be responsible for joining multiple MSDUs into a single MPDU that can be delivered to the physical layer as a single unit for transmission.

The ITU-T G.hn standard, which provides a way to create a high-speed (up to 1 Gigabit/s) Local area network using existing home wiring (power lines, phone lines and coaxial cables), is an example of a protocol that employs packet aggregation to increase efficiency.

Apple to-do list (GTD) info needed with 17 contributions

OK I've finally been allowed at work to switch from Blackberry to iPhone technology. So I now have a Dell laptop at work and an iPad and iPhone. What is the best way to manage tasks?

I use Outlook as my main email, calendar, contacts, and To-Do task management program. The outlook mail, calendar, and contacts all sync between devices very well. However it appears that Apple really doesn't have much in the way of a native task manager system.

So my question to all of you apple power users is what is the best way to manage my many tasks from Outlook?

I'm prepared to abandon the outlook task manager if there is something superior that I can use between all of my devices. The app store has a lot to choose from but I'm hoping to get help from all you Apple experts out there.

i like Splore, but wonder how I can use it better. Splore was created to make it easy for "people to help people" accomplish things: fun, charity, work, family, etc. Securely, openly if wanted or private if desired. It was created to find people like you, who you don't already know, unlike traditional social networks.

That said, what can we tell the developers that will make this a better site. Ideas, suggestions, from us, the Splore users? Post your comments in the Splore.

Bad hard drive in iMac with 6 contributions

I have a 24" iMac which we use constantly. Unfortunately, there are signs that the hard drive is dying. Looking for suggestions for a reliable internal hard drive to replace it with, and any experiences folks may have doing the replacement themselves (I don't have the Mac service warranty and don't want to pay $$$ to take it to the Apple Store).
